Your symptoms will depend on the tumor’s location, size, and growth rate. Symptoms may include:

The more aggressive the tumor growth, the more rapidly symptoms tend to develop or worsen.

How are brain and spine tumors diagnosed?

There are a number of exams used to diagnose the tumors, including:

Most tumors involving the brain and spine have spread from other primary sites, such as the lung, breast and prostate. Sometimes, tumors begin in the brain or spine and there are no other areas of involvement. If the brain and spine tumor is a primary tumor; that is it has not spread from another area, then a biopsy will often be necessary.

What treatments are available for brain and spine tumors?

Treatment will vary depending on the type of tumor, location and whether it is a primary tumor or secondary from another cancer site. The experienced radiation oncologists at Shore Point will discuss your treatment options with you and make recommendations. Treatment often involves radiation therapy, including image guided, intensity modulated radiation therapy or (IGRTIMRT) or stereotactic radiation therapy (SBRT). Sometimes the radiation is given after surgery.

The treatment plan can also include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or hormone therapy. The team is dedicated to supporting you during and after your treatments. Dr. Marchese and Dr. Shah will work closely with all the other physicians involved in your treatment.
